40 years ago, the original “Space Battleship Yamato” series was so sexist that there was only one female crew member that we ever saw. The remake, “Space Battleship Yamato 2199” which started it’s new series last year, is so sexist there are loads of female crew members and they’re dressed like bondage video rejects.

I love this new version of the classic anime series in so many ways but this sexism shit pisses me off. The men wear uniforms that make them look about as sexy as comfortable shoes. Meanwhile, every time a woman enters a scene I am distracted by her skin-tight “uniform.” The nurse even sports some serious zettai ryouiki.

Maybe it’s Go Nagai’s Yamato and I just didn’t notice his name over the title? SIGH.

Just finished watching “KAIBA”.  Damn, totally awesome. If you want your mind bent in 12 episodes or less, seek out this anime and watch it.  Check out some screencaps: http://thepete.minus.com/mjXfmpBQo/74g

Japan finds lots and lots of Rare Earth Minerals Under the Ocean Floor

Japan Finds Vast Reserves of Rare Earth Minerals That Could Be Used to Make Solar Panels and Other Electronics

by Brit Liggett, 07/05/11

Japan just announced that they’ve discovered a deposit of rare earth minerals off their coast in the Pacific Ocean that, if commercially viable, could change the worldwide market for the expensive materials. The deposit could yield as much as 80 to 100 billion tonnes of rare earth minerals and though Japan isn’t being specific about which materials they’ve found there, it is likely to contain gold and copper. China currently holds an estimated 97% of the world’s stores of rare earth minerals, which are used in many high tech gadgets like solar panels, cell phones, television sets and vehicles. Will Japan’s find change all of that?

Just so long as they don’t find any sakuradite. ^_^

I like my beef to be 100% too!

Come on! Why can’t they release the Eva movies on the big screen in the US simultaneously? Why do we have to wait so long and only for DVD??  :(

Creepy Evangelion-esque telepresence robot created in Japan; Second Impact Imminent

Found this yesterday on http://pinktentacle.com and was mildly creeped out by it’s appearance—but it sounds perfectly reasonable on paper:

The Telenoid R1 robot is designed to add an element of realism to long-distance communication by recreating the physical presence of the remote user. The robot’s actions mirror those of the remote user, whose movements are monitored by real-time face tracking software on the user’s computer. Users can also transmit their voice through the robot’s embedded speakers.

Yeah, but seeing that thing in the (silicone) flesh is kinda freaky. They’re going to have to do something about that thing before I’d want something like that in my home.

Maybe give it better limbs, a wig and breasts perhaps?
